Osakaya Kuzaemon -successful merchant-

Born in 1576, which was during the Warring States Period, Osakaya Kuzaemon succeeded in mine development field. Later, he expanded his business field into mining industry and overseas trade with Nether lands, among others, and Osakaya became the most successful merchant family of the period, after Sumitomo. Osakaya took “Kuzaemon” as their hereditary title, and their family business lasted for 270 years, throughout the Edo Period, followed by 8 successors.
